We designed a number of bespoke drinks and a panda-themed menu for a fancy dress party in Edinburgh in February 2012.

Edinburgh Zoo was celebrating the arrival of Tian Tian and Yang Guang its new giant panda residents, and we were asked to create some panda-themed drinks for a fancy dress party.

For this project bad panda puns – Panda Alexander anyone? – black and white drinks and bamboo cocktail stirrers were the order of the day.

Bamboo Julep, 8 sprigs of mint, a teaspoon of sugar syrup, splash of water and 50ml bourbon finished with mint and bamboo.

Soor Panda, 50ml bourbon, 25ml fresh lemon juice, 25ml egg white and barspoon of simple syrup finished with a lemon slice, bamboo and a brandied cherry.

Russian Panda, 50ml black vodka and 25ml coffee liqueur layered on top of 50ml milk and finished with a dusting of cocoa.

Bamboo Mojito, 50ml white rum, two barspoons of cane sugar, 15ml fresh lime juice and four sprigs of mint, muddled and finished with soda, ice, mint and bamboo.

Panda Alexander, 25ml black cognac, and 25ml crème de cacao layered on top of 50ml milk and finished with a sprinkling of nutmeg.
